—————————–
On June 24, 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court abolished the “constitutional right” to abortion healthcare and all of the anti-abortion laws previously legislated in Texas went into effect, forcing providers, advocacy organizations, and abortion funds across the state to cease all abortion related services. Fortunately, medical science has greatly advanced over the last few decades and safe, self-managed medical abortions are now both possible and recommended by leading medical experts for pregnant people in localities where facility-based or doctor-managed services are not accessible. As local abortion fund organizations like Texas Equal Access (TEA) Fund focus their efforts on the legal fight to decriminalize abortions in the state, localized direct-action alliances are working to educate communities on the most up-to-date science on safe, effective, self-managed abortion care and menstrual/ovulation tracking management tools.
“A self-managed abortion can be just as safe and effective as the more traditional, facility-based approach.”
– Doctors without Borders, 2021
“Evidence has demonstrated that in the first trimester, individuals can safely and effectively manage their own medical abortions…”
– World Health Organization (WHO)
“Period tracker apps are a potent source of data for police.”
– Surveillance Technology Oversight Project, 2022
