2/15 in rubber room
porous sonorous opens the year with Houston-based multidisciplinary artist Rebecca Novak, whose first solo performance in North Texas brings her constellation of cornet and objects. Dallas-based sound alchemists Black Taffy and Derek Rogers collaborate for the first time. Locations is the audiovisual generative improvisation project of Lily Taylor and Sean Miller, in which sound and image are created and manipulated in real time.

REBECCA NOVAK
Born in Chicago and raised in Miami and Michigan, Rebecca Novak is a Houston-based musician and artist who plays a constellation of instruments and objects (cornet, piano, glassware, radio), focusing on fine-grained textures and mechanical or electronic sounds made acoustically. Her work often combines music with sculpture, live writing, or projected images, investigating relationships between self and environment, body and object, performance and being. She has presented work at venues including Project Row Houses, Experimental Sound Studio (Chicago), Museo Tamayo (Mexico City), and Performance Works NW, and has performed and recorded in a wide range of collaborative configurations.
BLACK TAFFY + DEREK ROGERS
Black Taffy (Donovan Jones) is a Dallas-based composer and performer pairing classical, new age, and ambient music with bass and percussion, often using tape loops and antiquated media. He is signed to Leaving Records.
Derek Rogers is a Dallas-based musician working in electronic composition, drone, free improvisation, ambient, and noise. His practice combines computer processes, traditional instruments, and field recordings, with more than 50 releases since 2007.
