Naloxone is the generic name for a medication used to reverse opioid overdose. It works by rapidly restoring normal breathing to a person whose breathing has slowed or stopped due to an opioid overdose.
Narcan is a brand name for the nasal spray form of naloxone. It is the most widely known form of the drug and is often used interchangeably with the term “naloxone”.
